My Larapinta challenge
Story
EMMA MAGUIRE WILL BE TREKKING FOR 5 DAYS IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY FOR CHARITY!
Between 19 and 24 August I will be trekking the Larapinta Trail. My workplace DLA Piper were offering an opportunity for 10 women firmwide to complete this challenge in support of Indigenous Community Volunteers. I was one of the lucky 10. Why?
The Indigenous Community Volunteers provide skilled volunteers to give practical hands-on help to Indigenous communities where skills and resources are limited. They do things with the community, not "to" or "for" them.
I have 3 school-aged children, and have spent many an hour working on their homework discussing our Indigenous population and the settlement of this country. I use these opportunities to talk to them about the many wrongs that have befallen Indigenous Australians and the many steps that still need to be taken before reconciliation and equality can be reached. I tell them these things without ever having visited an Aboriginal community or the interior of our beautiful country.
I applied for this opportunity to raise funds for the ICV to show my kids that actions speak louder than words. Please help me achieve my goal of raising $3000 for this incredible organisation. For those that know me well, please also pray that my worst fears remain unrealised and I dont get bitten by a snake!

Community First Development is invited by communities to help them overcome disadvantage. Our role is to support communities with skills and resources not normally available to them. We do this with the enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers from all walks of life, from child care to construction, medicine to manufacturing, and gardening to grant-writing.
